Testi is a Turkish restaurant and ocakbaşı (charcoal grill) on Stoke Newington High Street, a family-run business that opened in 2000. The kitchen is built around the charcoal grill: Adana, lamb şiş, chicken şiş and the house Testi lokum kebab, made with lamb middle-neck fillet. Beyond the grill there is İskender, sarma beyti and slow-cooked kleftiko, plus meze such as atom, hummus kavurma and ciğer kebabı. Vegetarians do unusually well, with the clay-pot Testi Special, aubergine İskender and imam bayıldı, several with vegan versions.
It suits a big sharing dinner with rakı and meze, a family meal or a late kebab, and the dining room has recently reopened with a new look while keeping the same menu.

- Ciğer Kebabı – charcoal-grilled lamb liver with onion salad and lavash
- Testi Special – aubergine, hellim and mushroom baked in a clay pot under mozzarella
- Atom – spicy roasted peppers with strained garlic yoghurt
Atmosphere and good to know
Testi has a Turkish-style dining room with the ocakbaşı grill at its centre. Tables can be booked online through SevenRooms for parties of two to twenty, which makes it a practical choice for birthdays and group dinners, and there are set menus including a big sharing option, plus seasonal menus for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve.
It is licensed, with cocktails and rakı. The menu labels vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free dishes, and there is a brunch menu with a Mediterranean breakfast plate. Halal status isn’t stated on its website, so ask staff if needed. Testi is closed on Mondays and stays open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Testi opening hours
Monday: Closed; Tuesday to Thursday: 12:00–midnight; Friday to Saturday: 12:00–01:00; Sunday: 12:00–midnight. Hours can change on bank holidays, so check with the restaurant before you travel.
How to get to Testi
Testi is towards the southern end of Stoke Newington High Street. Stoke Newington Overground station is roughly an 8-minute walk north, and Rectory Road and Dalston Kingsland are both around 10–15 minutes away on foot. Buses 67, 76, 149 and 243 run along the High Street, and the 73 stops nearby.
