Antalya is a long-running Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant on Southampton Row in Holborn, a few minutes from Russell Square and the British Museum. It has been a fixture on this stretch of Bloomsbury for years, and a recent refurbishment kept its ornate look of gilding, murals and mosaics.

The menu covers the Turkish classics, from meze such as kısır, cacık and içli köfte to grilled Adana and lamb shish, İskender and islim kebab, alongside Mediterranean dishes like moussaka, salads and pasta. Set menus and a lunch club make it straightforward for groups and quick midday meals.

It suits hotel guests and museum-goers looking for a sit-down dinner, office lunches, and celebrations, thanks to a private function room and space for large parties. It opens every day until late evening.

What to order at Antalya

Start with a few meze to share, then move on to one of these:

  • İçli köfte – crushed-wheat shells filled with lamb mince, walnuts and herbs, fried until crisp
  • Karışık meze – a sampler of humus, tabule, cacık, kısır, calamari, börek, falafel and grilled sucuk
  • Lamb İskender – sliced lamb on crisp bread cubes with tomato sauce, butter and yoghurt
  • İslim kebap – diced lamb wrapped in aubergine slices and baked with tomatoes and peppers
  • Adana kebabı – spiced minced lamb grilled on the skewer
  • Lamb Lokkum – lamb tenderloin medallions with sautéed potatoes, mushrooms and aubergine sauce
  • Keşkek – a traditional slow-cooked barley and meat stew, served as a side
  • Baklava – layered filo pastry with nuts and syrup

Atmosphere and good to know

The dining room is large and decorative, with plenty of space for couples, families and big tables. A private function room seats up to 36 and has its own audio and projector, the back area takes up to 70, and the whole restaurant can be hired for around 130.

Antalya lists its food as halal on OpenTable, and it serves wine, beer, cocktails and rakı, plus alcohol-free cocktails. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are marked on the menu. Tables can be booked online, which is worth doing for weekend evenings and groups. A discretionary 12% service charge is added.

Antalya opening hours

Monday: 11:30–23:00; Tuesday to Saturday: 11:30–23:30; Sunday: 11:30–23:00. Hours can change on bank holidays, so check with the restaurant before you travel.
