Diyarbakır Kitchen is a family-run Turkish charcoal grill on Grand Parade, Green Lanes, in Harringay, between Manor House and Harringay Green Lanes station. Named after the south-eastern Turkish city, it is one of the street’s long-standing grill houses and has moved into larger premises over the years.

Lahmacun is what many people come back for: thin, crisp at the edges and topped with smoky minced lamb. Beyond that the menu runs from meze and daily soups such as mercimek and paça to pide, charcoal-grilled şiş and adana, and chef’s specials including İskender, Ali Nazik and Halep kebab. Homemade mantı and içli köfte add some home-style cooking.

With long opening hours and plenty of tables, it suits a casual dinner, a big family gathering or a late meal after a night out.

What to order at Diyarbakır Kitchen

Start with a lahmacun for the table, then pick from the grill and the specials:

  • Lahmacun – thin, crisp flatbread with spiced minced lamb
  • Mercimek çorbası – red lentil soup from the daily soup selection
  • Şakşuka – fried aubergine and potato in tomato sauce
  • İçli köfte – bulgur shells stuffed with spiced minced lamb
  • Adana kebap – chargrilled minced lamb with rice and salad
  • Halep kebap – minced lamb with onions and tomato sauce
  • İskender – lamb döner over bread with yoghurt and sauce
  • Mantı – minced lamb dumplings with yoghurt, chilli flakes and butter
