Late-Night Turkish Food in London: Where to Eat After Midnight

Finding late night Turkish food in London is easier than in most cities, because many of the capital’s Turkish grills, pide ovens and tantuni counters keep cooking long after midnight. Green Lanes in Harringay has the biggest cluster, with Dalston, Stoke Newington, Hackney and Shoreditch close behind.

Every place in this round-up of late night Turkish food in London is one diners rate highly, and every one stays open past midnight on at least some nights. Hours change, especially on bank holidays, so please check with the restaurant before you travel.

Late night Turkish food, London: closing times at a glance

Green Lanes and West Green Road

Harringay’s stretch of Green Lanes is London’s busiest Turkish high street after dark. Our Green Lanes food guide covers it in full.

Hala, Grand Parade, Green Lanes

Hala opens at 10am and serves until 2am every day. The mixed kebab platter of lamb şiş, chicken şiş, Adana (spiced minced lamb) and köfte with rice and salad suits two or more. Also try mantı, small handmade dumplings with garlic yoghurt and chilli butter, or hummus kavurma, hummus topped with sautéed lamb, and finish with künefe, warm shredded pastry with melted cheese and syrup. Book larger tables at weekends on 020 8802 4883.

Gökyüzü, Grand Parade, Green Lanes

Open from 9am to 2am daily, Gökyüzü covers breakfast through to the small hours. Late at night, order a jumbo platter of grilled meats for the table, lamb chops and ribs, ali nazik (lamb served on smoky aubergine with yoghurt) or kavurmalı pide, flatbread topped with sautéed lamb. It is very busy on weekend evenings, so book on 020 8211 8406.

Diyarbakır Kitchen, Grand Parade, Green Lanes

Many people come to Diyarbakır Kitchen for the lahmacun, a thin, crisp flatbread with smoky minced lamb. There are also daily soups such as mercimek (red lentil) and paça, a traditional soup made with lamb’s trotters, plus İskender, Halep kebab (minced lamb with onions and tomato sauce) and homemade mantı. Its website shows a halal logo, and wine, beer and rakı are on the menu. It is open until 1am, and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Şelale Restaurant, Salisbury Promenade, Green Lanes

At the northern end of the strip, Şelale has been recognised at the British Kebab Awards and has a smart room of velvet booths behind a wide glass front. Order kuzu şiş (charcoal-grilled lamb cubes), bıldırcın (grilled quail) or the house special mixed grill for two to three. There is a dedicated vegan and vegetarian section, a children’s menu and a full bar. It serves from 9am until 1am, and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and takes bookings online.

Durak Tantuni, West Green Road, Tottenham

A short walk from Turnpike Lane station, Durak Tantuni serves tantuni from noon to 2am every day. Tantuni is finely chopped lamb griddled with spices, tomato and onion, then wrapped in thin flatbread. Order it as a single or double wrap, with lemon and pickled peppers on the side, or in bread for a bigger meal, and drink it with ayran, a salted yoghurt drink.

Dalston and Stoke Newington

Kingsland Road, Stoke Newington Road and the High Street run as one long line of late-opening grills. See all the Dalston and Stoke Newington listings.

Mangal Turkish Pizza, Stoke Newington Road, Dalston

Rather than a grill, Mangal Turkish Pizza is built around its oven. It turns out thin lahmacun, best rolled up with salad and lemon, and pide, boat-shaped flatbread with a choice of toppings. It is listed as fully halal and serves no alcohol. There are only a few tables, so many people take away. It opens at 8am and stays open until midnight, or 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mangal 1 Ocakbasi, Arcola Street, Dalston

Founded by Istanbul-born Ali Dirik, Mangal 1 is one of the original ocakbaşı restaurants, grill houses built around an open charcoal fire, that put Dalston on London’s food map. Order çöp şiş (small lamb cubes), tavuk beyti (minced chicken wrapped in lavash), köfte and lamb chops as a mixed platter. It has no alcohol licence, so bring your own. It is open from noon until midnight, and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. For more charcoal grills, see our ocakbaşı guide.

Testi, Stoke Newington High Street

Family-run since 2000, Testi won Best Kebab Restaurant in North and West London at the 2019 British Kebab Awards. The house lokum kebab is charcoal-grilled lamb middle-neck fillet, and atom, spicy roasted peppers with garlic yoghurt, is a good meze. Rakı and cocktails are served, and vegetarians do well, with several vegan versions. It stays open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and is closed on Mondays. Book online via SevenRooms.

Newington Green, Hackney and Shoreditch

Sarıyer Balık, Green Lanes, Newington Green

For a late dinner of fish, Sarıyer Balık is a family-run seafood restaurant and meyhane, a Turkish tavern where rakı and meze are shared slowly. Order a table of cold meze, then levrek (sea bass) or hamsi tava, pan-fried Black Sea anchovies. It opens from 5pm until 1am, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays. Book through Quandoo at weekends.

Sun Kitchen, Mare Street, Hackney

A few minutes from Hackney Central, Sun Kitchen serves charcoal grills and stone-oven pide until midnight most nights and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Try yoğurtlu Adana (Adana kebab with yoghurt), sarma beyti (lamb beyti wrapped in flatbread) or kuşbaşılı pide, topped with diced lamb. Beer, wine and cocktails are served, and tables can be booked through Dojo.

The Munch, Shoreditch High Street

The latest opener here, The Munch is a family-run Turkish kitchen open until 2am most nights and 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. Order Adana köfte as a wrap or a plate with rice or bulgur, mixed şiş, or a sharing platter of döner, şiş and köfte. Börek (filo pastry with feta and spinach) and grilled sucuk (spicy beef sausage) make good starters. Efes, craft beer and wine are served, vegan dishes are marked, and halal status isn’t stated. Shoreditch High Street station is about five minutes away.

  • Weeknights: Hala, Gökyüzü, Durak Tantuni and The Munch stay open until 2am every night.
  • Drinks: Mangal 1 is bring-your-own, and Mangal Turkish Pizza serves no alcohol.
  • Getting home: the Piccadilly and Victoria lines run through the night on Fridays and Saturdays, and night buses cover most of these streets. Check TfL before you set out.
  • Know your order: our guide to popular Turkish dishes explains everything from lahmacun to İskender.
