Sun Kitchen is a Turkish restaurant at 261 Mare Street in Hackney, a few minutes’ walk from Hackney Central. It is run by a family whose Hackney story goes back to a small Turkish restaurant opened in 1995, followed by TAD Restaurant in 2003; after a spell as a gözleme shop from 2020, the business reopened as Sun Kitchen in 2024.
The menu covers the full spread of a neighbourhood Turkish grill: charcoal-grilled şiş, Adana and lamb chops, döner, stone-oven pide and lahmacun, hot and cold meze, and house specials such as İskender, yoğurtlu Adana and sarma beyti. There is a separate vegetarian section, grilled sea bass and swordfish, steaks and a children’s menu.
It works for a family dinner, a casual meal with friends or a late bite at the weekend, and it also delivers through Uber Eats and Deliveroo.

Atmosphere and good to know
Sun Kitchen is a casual, family-run dining room on Hackney’s main high street, suited to a weeknight meal or a larger group. Tables can be booked online through Dojo, and the kitchen keeps late hours: open until midnight most nights and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Beer, wine and cocktails are served. Vegetarians are well looked after, with dishes such as imam bayıldı, falafel, vegetarian moussaka and sarma, and gluten-free options are available. Children have their own menu, including chicken şiş and fish fingers. Halal status isn’t published, so ask when ordering if it matters to you.

Sun Kitchen is on Mare Street near Hackney Town Hall and the Hackney Empire. Hackney Central Overground station is about a 4-minute walk, and Hackney Downs (Overground and trains from Liverpool Street) is around 8 minutes away.
