Mangal Meze Romford is a Turkish restaurant on South Street in Romford, a couple of minutes’ walk from Romford station. Now past its tenth year, it is one of the town centre’s best-known places for a sit-down Turkish meal, with a charcoal mangal grill, a long meze list and a lively dining room.
The menu covers the classics: yaprak sarma, imam bayıldı, sigara böreği and lahmacun to start, then Adana, ızgara köfte and döner from the grill. The house specials are where it gets more interesting, with İskender, Ali Nazik on smoked aubergine and İslim kebab, as well as a Cypriot-style kleftiko.
There are set lunch, celebration and takeaway menus, so it suits a quick weekday lunch as well as birthday dinners and big family get-togethers.

Mangal Meze has a smart, well-kept dining room that copes easily with large groups, and it is a regular choice for birthdays, with a dedicated celebration menu. Cocktails and a full drinks list are available, alongside Turkish soft drinks such as ayran and şalgam. Vegetarians have plenty of meze to choose from, including imam bayıldı and stuffed vine leaves.
A set lunch menu makes it good value in the daytime. The restaurant is often fully booked in the evenings, so reserve through its website, particularly at weekends. Takeaway is also available.

Monday to Thursday: 12:00–22:30; Friday to Saturday: 12:00–23:00; Sunday: 12:00–22:00. Hours can change on bank holidays, so check with the restaurant before you travel.
How to get to Mangal Meze
Romford station, served by the Elizabeth line, the Overground Liberty line and Greater Anglia trains, is about a 2-minute walk along South Street. Many bus routes, including the 103, 175 and 248, stop in Romford town centre close to the restaurant.
