Kirvem is a Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant and bar on Commercial Road in Limehouse, between Limehouse station and the Canary Wharf estates. Kirvem Limehouse is run under the owner’s close eye and has built a loyal local following for grilled meat, slow-cooked lamb and generous portions.

The kitchen moves between Turkish grill classics and wider Mediterranean dishes: lamb chops, kleftiko-style lamb shank, mussels in a rich sauce, and meze such as baba ganoush, with the house specials and baklava often singled out. Tables usually start with bread, olives and a little house-made cheese.

It has a full bar and a calmer, sit-down feel than a kebab house, which makes it a good choice for date nights, anniversaries and small groups who want a proper dinner with a glass of wine.

What to order at Kirvem

Kirvem’s strengths are slow-cooked and grilled lamb, so build an order around these:

  • Kuzu pirzola – grilled lamb chops, one of the most-ordered dishes
  • Kleftiko – lamb shank slow-cooked until it falls off the bone
  • Midye – mussels in a rich sauce, best with bread for mopping up
  • Baba ganoush – smoky aubergine dip to start
  • House special – a chef’s signature main with thin, crisp pitta
  • Baklava – filo and nut pastry in syrup to finish

Atmosphere and good to know

Kirvem is a restaurant and bar with table service, a clean dining room and a moderate noise level that suits conversation. It opens from 11am every day and is popular for celebrations as well as relaxed local dinners.

Alcohol is served, with wine and beer from a full bar. Directory listings note vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, highchairs and wheelchair access. Reservations are taken, which is worth doing for weekend evenings. It also opens early enough for a late breakfast or brunch, and desserts such as baklava round off the evening.

Kirvem opening hours

Monday to Sunday: 11:00–23:00. Hours can change on bank holidays, so check with the restaurant before you travel.
