Adana is a Turkish grill restaurant on Bethnal Green Road in Bethnal Green, and one of the busiest Turkish dining rooms in this part of East London. The Adana Bethnal Green branch takes its name and its cooking from the kebab traditions of southern Turkey, with meat cooked over charcoal and served with warm Turkish bread, salad and house sauces.

The menu is built around the grill: Adana köfte, lamb and chicken shish, lamb beyti and İskender, alongside lamb chops, ribs and wings on large numbered sharing platters. There are also hot and cold meze, pan-cooked tava and güveç dishes, sea bass and vegetable kebabs. The kitchen adds a fusion twist, with a few Bengali-leaning flavours and signature sauces, so it is not a strictly traditional ocakbaşı.

The dining room is bright and fairly calm, and it suits families, groups of friends and anyone after a generous, fully halal mixed grill without alcohol.

What to order at Adana

Start with meze and bread, then share one of the mixed platters or pick a single grill:

  • Adana köfte – spiced minced lamb grilled on a skewer over charcoal
  • Lamb beyti – minced lamb wrapped in thin bread with tomato and pepper sauce and garlic butter
  • İskender – sliced Adana served over bread and yoghurt with a tomato and pepper sauce
  • Chicken shish – marinated chicken breast cubes cooked on the mangal
  • Mixed grill platter – lamb chops, ribs, wings, shish and Adana over Turkish rice, made for sharing
  • Lahmacun – thin flatbread topped with spiced minced meat, onion, tomato and parsley
  • Lamb tava – lamb cooked in a pan with peppers, tomato and onion
  • Muska böreği – filo parcels filled with feta and parsley

Atmosphere and good to know

The restaurant is a bright, white-walled room with a relaxed feel; it is quiet enough to talk over dinner and has a private room at the back for larger bookings. It opens from late afternoon on weekdays and from lunchtime at weekends, staying open until midnight.

Adana is listed as fully halal (HMC certified) and does not serve alcohol; mocktails are on the drinks list instead. Vegetarians have meze, vegetable kebabs and imam bayıldı to choose from. Groups wanting the back room should call ahead.

Adana opening hours

Monday to Thursday: 16:00–midnight; Friday: 13:00–midnight; Saturday to Sunday: 12:00–midnight. Hours can change on bank holidays, so check with the restaurant before you travel.
