Cheap Turkish eats in London: where to eat well for less

Eleven places across London where lahmacun, pide, tantuni, gözleme and canteen cooking keep the bill low, every one of them a place people rate highly.

Last updated November 2026

Finding cheap Turkish food London-wide is mostly about knowing what to order. Skip the mixed grill for two and head for the oven: lahmacun, pide and gözleme are filling, made to order and cost a fraction of a sit-down kebab dinner. So does a tantuni wrap or a canteen plate of the day’s stews. Add an ayran or a glass of tea and you’ve eaten well for not much.

This list covers pide bakeries, street-food counters, a tradesmen’s canteen and a few lunch spots in Aldgate, Farringdon, Holborn and Victoria, plus locals in Tottenham, Newington Green, Dalston, Enfield and Charlton. We don’t quote prices, because they change, but every entry tells you what to order to keep it cheap. For more oven-baked options, see the best lahmacun and pide in London.

Quick picks

How we chose

Every place here is rated highly by the people who eat there, and each is somewhere a filling meal comes from an oven, a counter or a single plate. Details come from menus, the places’ own listings and our directory pages.

Where to find cheap Turkish food London-wide

1. Diyarbakır Taş Fırın, Turnpike Lane

Turnpike Lane · Stone oven · street food · Best for: The cheapest hot meal on the strip

In short: Stone-oven café right beside Turnpike Lane station.

Why it’s here: Small, casual and with everything made in front of you, it bakes lahmacun, pide and gözleme to order and serves tantuni from the counter. Tantuni, the Mersin-style wrap of finely chopped chicken or beef with onion, is among the cheapest hot meals in the area. It’s a separate business from Diyarbakır Kitchen on Green Lanes.

Order this: Tavuk tantuni (chicken, with pickled chillies and lemon), et tantuni (beef) and a gözleme, the thin folded flatbread.

Insider note: Best for one to four people. Ask about halal.

  • Find it: 1 Wellington Terrace, N8 0PX · Turnpike Lane (Piccadilly line), next door
  • Open: Daily, 10am–11pm

2. Üstün Lahmacun & Pide Salonu, Newington Green

Newington Green · Lahmacun & pide · Best for: Lahmacun to take away

In short: Tiny shop that does two things: lahmacun and pide.

Why it’s here: At 107 Green Lanes, the dough is stretched very thin and baked to order in a wood-burning oven, so the edges come out crisp. The lamb topping leans on onion and isot pepper, a smoky dried chilli. Have it whole, sliced or rolled with salad. There’s only a corner of seating, so most people take it away.

Order this: Lahmacun dürüm (rolled with salad), the vegetarian lahmacun, and mercimek çorbası (lentil soup) when it’s on.

Insider note: Cash only. Closed Mondays.

  • Find it: 107 Green Lanes, N16 · Canonbury Overground, about 10 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Tuesday to Sunday from 11am

3. Mangal Turkish Pizza, Dalston

Dalston · Pide salonu · street food · Best for: A cheap late-night snack

In short: Oven-led pide salonu on Stoke Newington Road, open late at weekends.

Why it’s here: Known locally as Mangal Pide Salonu, it’s built around the oven rather than a grill. Lahmacun is the reason to come: thin flatbread spread with minced meat, tomato, peppers and spices, best rolled with salad and lemon. There are only a few tables, a busy takeaway counter and quick service. It’s listed as fully halal, with no alcohol.

Order this: Lahmacun with a cold ayran (salted yoghurt drink), then a pide if you’re still hungry.

Insider note: Big groups will struggle for space.

  • Find it: 27 Stoke Newington Road, N16 · Dalston Kingsland Overground, about 5 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Daily from 8am to midnight, until 2am Friday and Saturday

4. Gaziantep Lahmacun & Pide, Tottenham

Tottenham · Lahmacun & pide · Best for: Rock-bottom prices

In short: Focused lahmacun and pide house on Philip Lane.

Why it’s here: Named after the south-eastern city famous for both, it keeps the menu short: thin, crisp lahmacun and boat-shaped pide, baked to order from dough made on site. Prices are among the lowest in the area and portions are generous. The room is small and simple, and the oven does most of the work.

Order this: Acılı lahmacun (the extra-spicy version) and a karışık pide (mixed toppings) to share.

Insider note: It closes at 9pm, so go early. Ask about halal.

  • Find it: 114 Philip Lane, N15 4JL · Bruce Grove Overground, about 8 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Daily, 11.30am–9pm

5. 27 Lahmacun, Tottenham

Tottenham · Lahmacun · home cooking · Best for: Gaziantep home cooking

In short: Family-run lahmacun and tava house named after Gaziantep’s number-plate code.

Why it’s here: 27 is the registration code for Gaziantep, and the menu follows: Antep lahmacun, Kilis tava and katmer. There’s also pide, gözleme, mantı and a homemade tava section with dishes rarely seen in London, such as kasap içli karnıyarık (aubergine stuffed with minced meat). Breakfast starts at 8.30am.

Order this: Fındık lahmacun (four small rounds), Kilis tava (minced lamb and beef baked with tomato and peppers) and sucuklu menemen.

Insider note: Lahmacun travels well; delivery is on Deliveroo.

  • Find it: 49 The Roundway, N17 7HA · bus 123 along Lordship Lane
  • Open: Daily, 8.30am–10pm

6. Esnaf Lokantası, Enfield

Enfield · Lokanta · Best for: Turkish food beyond kebabs

In short: A tradesmen’s canteen with the day’s dishes laid out on the counter.

Why it’s here: An esnaf lokantası is the canteen that feeds workers across Turkey. This family-run one cooks soups, meat and chicken dishes, vegetables and rice fresh each day, and you point at what you want rather than ordering from a fixed menu. The food is halal, there’s no alcohol, and tea is often offered.

Order this: A chef’s plate of the day’s dishes, günün çorbası (soup of the day) with bread, and pilav (rice).

Insider note: The counter changes daily, so ask what’s meat-free.

  • Find it: 4 Green Street, EN3 7HG · route 279 stops on Hertford Road, a minute away
  • Open: Daily, 7am–10pm

7. Rose’s Kitchen, Aldgate

Aldgate · Gözleme · street food · Best for: A quick City lunch

In short: Weekday gözleme counter on Petticoat Square.

Why it’s here: The draw is gözleme, the hand-rolled Anatolian flatbread, made to order with dough kneaded on site and served with spicy sauce and yoghurt. A counter of fresh salads becomes a bowl, wrap or plate with grilled chicken or halloumi. There are a few seats and some outdoor tables, but most people take lunch back to the office.

Order this: Ispanaklı peynirli gözleme (spinach and feta) or hellim gözleme (halloumi, potato and spinach).

Insider note: Busy at lunchtime, but the queue moves quickly.

  • Find it: 11 Harrow Place, E1 7DB · Aldgate, about 4 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm

8. TURAN Turkish & Mediterranean Cuisine, Farringdon

Farringdon · Grill · street food · Best for: A hot lunch at your desk

In short: Family-run grill on Leather Lane that keeps office hours.

Why it’s here: Among the street-food stalls of Leather Lane, it cooks grill classics as plates with rice and salad, or packed into a box for your desk. Eat in and warm bread and dips come with the meal. Rice is included with the grill plates, which keeps lunch simple and good value.

Order this: Tavuk şiş (chicken shish), kuzu pirzola (lamb chops) or a köfte box.

Insider note: No evening or weekend service. Just walk in.

  • Find it: 93 Leather Lane, EC1 · Chancery Lane, about 5 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Monday to Friday, lunchtime to 7pm

9. Lovemacun, Victoria

Victoria · Street food · Best for: Before a train or a show

In short: Turkish street food built around the macun, a flatbread wrap baked to order.

Why it’s here: Two minutes from Victoria station, it wraps marinated chicken, lamb or falafel in thin flatbread baked to order. Lahmacun, pide, köfte, hummus and lentil soup fill out the menu. The food is listed as halal and service is quick.

Order this: Lamb macun, falafel macun, or sucuklu yumurtalı pide (pide with Turkish sausage and egg).

Insider note: Busiest at lunch and before shows at the Apollo Victoria.

  • Find it: 55 Wilton Road, SW1V 1DE · Victoria, about 3 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Daily, noon–11pm

10. Pide & Co, Holborn

Holborn · Pide & lahmacun · Best for: Proper Kayseri pide in central London

In short: Kayseri-style pide from ovens shipped over from Turkey.

Why it’s here: Opened in spring 2025 by Turkey’s Zeren Group, with a Kayseri-born pide master. Pides come topped with diced lamb, mince, sucuk, pastırma or smoked aubergine, and there’s vegan lahmacun. For a filling plate that won’t break the bank, order kuru fasulye, a white bean stew. It’s fully halal and alcohol-free.

Order this: Kuşbaşılı pide (diced lamb, tomato and pepper) or kuru fasulye with rice and turşu (pickles).

Insider note: Closed Sundays. It has its own ordering app.

  • Find it: 38 Kingsway, WC2B 6EX · Holborn, about 3 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Monday to Saturday, from 11.30am (11am Saturday) to 9pm

11. EaTurkish, Charlton

Charlton · Kebab & pide · Best for: A south-east London takeaway

In short: Kebab and pide shop that bakes its bread fresh every day.

Why it’s here: On Woolwich Road between Greenwich Peninsula and Woolwich, everything is made in-house. Kebabs come in homemade bread or as plates, and the pides have names: the Akdeniz brings halloumi and olives, the Anatolian sucuk and egg. Prices are modest and food arrives fast.

Order this: Kuzu döner in homemade bread or the Ephesus pide (feta, spinach and chilli flakes).

Insider note: Order on its website for collection or delivery.

  • Find it: 172 Woolwich Road, SE7 7RA · Charlton or Westcombe Park, about 10 minutes’ walk
  • Open: Daily from noon to 11pm (from 2.30pm Friday)

How to keep it cheap

  • Go for the oven, not the grill. One pide with soup or salad can easily feed two.
  • Eat at lunchtime. Counters such as TURAN include rice or salad with the plate.
  • Drink ayran or çay. A yoghurt drink or Turkish tea costs far less than beer and suits the food better.
  • Carry cash. Üstün Lahmacun & Pide Salonu doesn’t take cards.
