Turkish Meyhane (Rakı & Meze) in London
A meyhane is a Turkish tavern where the meal is built around rakı, cold and hot meze, and usually fish. London has two proper examples, both in north-east London: Sarıyer Balık in Newington Green, which grills sea bass and bream and stays open late, and The Midyeci in Dalston, which started with stuffed mussels and now runs a full fish and meze menu. Both are licensed and best with a group, ordering plates to share over a long evening.
